Michael Castellino focuses his practice on local governments and their various boards, committees, and departments, as well as business entities and individuals, in matters related to land use, economic development and incentives, zoning, licensing, permitting and general municipal law.

Samples/Significant Representations

  • Served as Village Attorney to a south suburban municipality, thereby gaining significant experience in drafting municipal ordinances, attending meetings of the corporate authorities and various municipal boards and commissions, handling zoning, annexation and other land use and economic development matters, and advising municipal officials on other legal matters.
  • Served as counsel to a suburban municipality with respect to the development of a 400+ acre industrial park, which is intended to house 5 million square feet of building space and create 1,500 to 2,000 new jobs. Some of the issues involved in the regionally significant project include tax increment financing, zoning, subdivision, Cook County real estate classification incentives and enterprise zone benefits.
  • Represented a provider of digital red light enforcement services in that company’s Illinois operations. This engagement included preparing, reviewing and negotiating contracts between the company and various municipalities, as well as providing other general counseling services to the company.
  • Successfully appearing before the City of Chicago’s Zoning Board of Appeals, the Chicago City Council’s Committee on Zoning, and suburban planning and zoning boards and commissions with respect to zoning matters on behalf of private sector clients.
  • Appearing before the City of Chicago’s Department of Administrative Hearings on behalf of private sector clients on matters including Building Code Violations, business license violations and disputes over City taxes.
